The Lobster Cove String Quartet returns to the Annisquam Village Church for a program of crossover classical and original Americana, featuring special guests Celia Woodsmith, Jesse Dee, and Zachariah Hickman. The program features music of Astor Piazzolla, Claude Debussy, Thelonious Monk, and Erik Satie, as well as songs by Woodsmith and Dee.

Scott Moore is a founding member of the quartet and Artist-in-Residence at the Village Church. He writes, “This second installment of our wood, wire, and song series features a visceral blend that feels both unusual and familiar. Celia Woodsmith and Jesse Dee are truly incredible powerhouse singers, whose fire and soulfulness are nonetheless matched by their thoughtful, relatable songwriting. We’re equally thrilled to welcome back the extraordinary bassist, arranger, raconteur, and musical compadre, Zachariah Hickman, for an intimate evening of tender moments and raucous fun.”

Celia Woodsmith is a GRAMMY-nominated vocalist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist known for her electrifying blend of Americana, blues, bluegrass, and folk. Described by The Bluegrass Situation as having a “bold and brazen voice,” Woodsmith delivers raw, high-energy performances steeped in grit, soul, and fearless honesty. As the frontwoman of Della Mae and a driving force behind Boston rock outfit Say Darling, she’s toured in over 30 countries and recorded 12 albums, including a solo release. Whether wielding a guitar or a washboard, Celia brings an intensity and authenticity that make her a commanding voice in American roots music.

Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Jesse Dee is a man with a big heart and an old soul. “Explosive,” “fervent,” and “infectious” are the kinds of words people typically reach for when trying to describe the power of his live performances. Amidst a long list of influences, classic soul and R&B artists such as Solomon Burke, Sam Cooke, and Otis Redding notably stand out. With a warm and honest sound, memorable melodies, and positive slice-of-life lyrics, he keeps a growing fan base coming back for more. Dee has opened for legendary performers Al Green, Etta James, and Bettye LaVette, as well as modern-day masters, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings and The James Hunter Six.
