This Sunday, the church bells will ring in Annisquam as we gather together in the church for the first time in a very LONG time! Fifteen months! We have all changed so much since March of 2020. How tall were you fifteen months ago? What have you learned since then? How much have you changed since ? And how much your life changed?! WOW!
This has been a year that your family will never forget. A year when we stayed home, and didn’t travel or visit friends. A year when we wore masks everywhere. A year when we could not celebrate birthdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or the New Year with a large group of friends and family. It was a year without summer camp, without festivals or fairs, or the Sea Fair! Without baseball. Without museums, theatre, or concerts. It was a year without handshakes or hugs. Many people missed seeing their friends. They missed spending time together, and sharing a meal. And many, many people were very sick.
On Sunday, we can gather together again!
The church bell will ring at 9:50, to remind us to gather. It will ring a second time at 10:00, at the very beginning of worship.
Come! And celebrate with us in person or on Zoom.
Come! Gather on the church lawn before 9:55, sign in at the table, and pick up a bell to ring. And if you can’t gather at church, join us on Zoom and ring a bell along with your church family.
At 10:00, after the second church bell tolls, Reverend Sue will welcome us all. She will bless the church and all of us, and will invite families with children to line up and process right after the choir. I’ll be walking with you.Rob Russell and Nancy Guselli will lead us as we process into the church ringing our bells in celebration. We will ring them for a LONG time- until everyone who was outside has entered the church.
Come! Ring bells, and help lead the procession through the church doors and into the church for the first time in 15 months.
Enjoy the sounds of the choir singing: “Joyful joyful we adore thee.”
Enjoy the moments of silence and peace in this beautiful space.
Feel the spirit all around you.
Enjoy greeting friends after worship, as we gather on the church lawn for sweet treats and refreshments.
Whether you feel quiet or wiggly, whether you can join us in person or on Zoom, you are always welcome at the Annisquam Village Church.
This will be a summer of many celebrations. Each of you will be celebrating the end of a school year time and will travel to places you have wanted to visit. Summer will once again be a season of baseball unlike any other. It will be a summer of celebrations with friends or family you haven’t seen in a long time, games and summer camp – of noisy family gatherings – of festivals and the return of the Sea Fair! Every one of these will be a reason to celebrate – and will remind us to be grateful for every day, every new friend, and every moment of joy.
“This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!”
Here is a wonderful moment of joy, created by a “flash mob” in Germany in 2014: Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy.”
After next week, I will be sending out occasional messages for children and families over the summer, along with ideas and events for families. May the week and the summer ahead bring you many joyful and unexpected moments.
Each of us is blessed to be a blessing. This week we celebrate!
